Entwicklung von Rahmenbedingungen in der Kindertagesbetreuung - Indikatorengestützte Qualitätsbeobachtung

The study „An indicator-based monitoring of structural quality in the German early childhood education and care system” (ERiK) consists of seven different surveys that target the following distinct populations of youth offices, family-day-care workers, providers of childcare, directors of day-care centres, pedagogical staff in these centres, parents and children.
In 2020, all but the target group of children participated in the ERiK-Surveys; the Deutsche Jugendinstitut (DJI) publishes the data collected in the parent survey under the KiBs project. ERiK data of 2020 thus includes the data collected in five surveys, and as such provide a representative multi-stakeholder-perspective on the quality of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) in Germany, as well as allow for comparisons between the childcare situations in the different German federal states.
The data sets contain information on ECEC quality indicators that the project developed against the framework of the ten areas of improvement that the national law on quality development in Early Childhood Education and Care of January 2019 (KiQTG) defines. The sample size of the data set is unprecedented in Germany, with over 470 youth offices, 4,350 family day-care workers, 2,300 providers of childcare, 3,850 directors of day-care centres, and 8,700 pedagogical staff in day-care centres surveyed in 2020.
A second wave will take place in 2022. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (in German: Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend; BMFSFJ for short).
